Is A Chemical Peel Good for Your Face?

When we age, we begin to envy women with smooth wrinkle-free skin and wonder how we can best improve our own. A wide variety of skin nourishing products is available on the market, but anti-wrinkle creams are often ineffective when it comes to fighting other conditions, such as age spots or acne. Drastic procedures like face lift require anesthesia and can be costly. A good alternative is a chemical peel, also known as derma-peeling or chemexfoliation method. This skin rejuvenation process takes a short amount of time and is not as expensive as cosmetic surgery, but you may wonder if it is indeed as effective and if it is really good for your face?

A chemical peel is one of a few facial treatments that provide a complete renewal of facial skin. It helps reduce fine lines around the eyes and mouth, treat wrinkles caused by sun damage, heal certain types of acne, reduce appearance of scars, freckles and dark patches, as well as improve overall skin texture and color. Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), such as glycolic, lactic, or fruit acids are the mildest of the peel formulas and produce light peels; trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is usually used in medium depth peels. These chemical peels are the most common and are usually considered outpatient procedures. Nevertheless, make sure that an aesthetician or a surgeon who performs it is highly qualified. Highly knowledgeable and trained professionals at the José Luis Salon are ready to consult you on what peel treatment, among the several ones offered, is the right one for you.

Before the procedure, you skin is thoroughly cleaned. After that, one or more chemical solutions used during the peel process are applied to various areas of you face in small strokes. You will feel burning sensation on your skin which will subside after a few minutes. The peel is then neutralized with iced saline. While your face skin may initially acquire red coloring, it should return to its normal color shortly, in case of medium peels – about 45 minutes. Medium chemical peel treatment does not require any post-treatment care or medication. There should be no discomfort after the procedure. You will be able to continue with your regular skin care regimen, washing your face daily with gentle soap and applying ointment. Within several days the skin will begin to crack, flake and will eventually peel off. It usually takes a full week after the procedure for the peeling and new skin growth to finish. You can then wear make up and return to your normal activities.

Results produced by chemical peels are long lasting. Medium chemical peels usually last six month to two years, and most women who choose them as a skin rejuvenation tool repeat the procedure every six- to- twelve months. José Luis Salon offers TCA peel, as well as Glycolic Lactic Peel and Salicylic Mendelic Peel, which target specific skin issues, such as photo damage and acne. Blonde or Brunette: How to Choose the Best Hair Color for Your Hair?

We have all come across someone with hair color so unfitting to her appearance that we couldn’t help but ask ourselves “What was she thinking?” Sometimes a bright peach hairdo or blue highlights are intentional and their owner is rather proud of her exotic hair coloring; but many times it is a result of a wrongfully chosen color or an at-home hair coloring procedure turned bad. Whether you are new to hair coloring or just about to make yet another change in your appearance by switching to a never-before-tried hair color, do not make a permanent change until you are absolutely sure about the color. Play with temporary coloring, if you like, or try on different color wigs, but do not commit to a color you are uncertain about.

The first and most important step in choosing a hair color is to determine to which complexion group you belong. There are two, warm and cool, and both greatly influence what choice of hair color you should make. If you have medium-pale or pale skin with no recognizable undertone; your eyes are deep brown, grey blue, dark blue or hazel; and your natural hair color is deepest brown or black, medium ash or golden brown, or white, you most likely belong to the cool category. If, on the other hand, your skin has pale peach tones, or is brown with undertones of pink or gold; your eyes are golden brown, green, green blue, turquoise or hazel with gold or brown flecks; and your natural hair color is deep brown with highlights, red, strawberry blonde or natural golden blonde, you are probably in the warm skin tone category.

Once you determine whether you are cool or warm, think of selecting a hair color that suits the attributes of the category. Warm people, for example, can use golden, rich brown or red coloring in their hair. Those with cool complexion, however, would be better off with ashy shades of brown, black or light blonde. Luckily for the cools, their complexion can withstand flashy bright hair dyes. When choosing a hair color remember that your goal is to complement your complexion, not to match the hair color you already have (otherwise, why color your hair at all?). Pay attention to your skin’s undertone, and if, for example, you have a bluish or pink undertone to your cool skin, do not go for wild pink or blue highlights, as they will only emphasize the undertones instead of complimenting your skin and eyes.

If you do not feel comfortable determining the best hair color for your complexion, or are still unsure if your choice is the right one, consult a professional salon colorist. Colorists at José Luis Salon are always ready to assist you in selecting the best hair color to compliment your skin tone and eye color. Aside from permanent and semi-permanent coloring service, the José Luis Salon offers color correction, which comes with complimentary consultation prior to the actual service.
